Bravenet did WHAT?!
The one sure thing that's always made me take a breather from everyday things was reading and making Voltron fan stuff. Years after the last ep of the westernized version of Golion in the 80s, I still think fondly of it, cheesy dialogue and all. And there’s nothing like sitting down with your favorite childhood snack -- mine are hot chocolate and cookies or Coke and tacos, very healthy :) -- while browsing through Voltron fan fiction on the Net.

The last few years, though, had been pretty heavy. In a nutshell, the economy still sucked, and I was busy with the usual real life stuff, and I haven’t visited Voltron mailing lists in years.

And then Winona Ryder voice-acted for Tim Burton and Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis called it quits. The sane, sensible adult in me was like, “That’s nice. Winona's working with Tim again," and "Sad for the kids, but J and V are civilized, and she looks good." However. The preteen? "WINONA'S WORKING WITH TIM, ONE OF JOHNNY DEPP'S BEST FRIENDS, AGAIN!" "JOHNNY'S SINGLE!" “Eva Green and Amber Heard are SO JUST PAPARAZZI BEARDS!" "WINO FOREVER!”

Sorry, bashers, big fan love here. And give that woman a break. I’d be a walking deer-caught-in-the-headlights trainwreck, too, if I were home schooled, bullied, home schooled again, had JOHNNY DEPP for a first boyfriend, only to break up with Johnny Depp because the parents by whom you were home schooled made that decision for you at the time you were sporting the coolest hairdo ever, something that even your posh goopy frenemy couldn't pull off properly. And you kids whose first impression of Johnny Depp is bandanas and earrings with gold teeth, braids, and, um... scurvy, look him up on Google before all that facial hair. OKAY? Plus, you cannot possibly hope to reason with Teen and Tiger Beat logic even 20 years later. And this belongs to another fan site.

Anyway. Those had me thinking about the Heathers (what's my damage!), and whatever happened to Christian Slater, and scissor hands, and weekly undercover cops in high school -- happy 80s things that include good Saturday morning cartoons. Like Voltron. See, there is a connection. So a long-awaited sifting through mailing list messages followed, through which I learned that Bravenet deleted my fan site due to neglect and inactivity.

But such is the power of being mentally twelve again that I mucked through the old hard drive and salvaged whatever Voltron that’s there and put them out on a free Weebly account. Nice reviews, unlimited storage and bandwidth. Convenient and easy to use. There are limitations, to be sure, such as favicons, the obligatory footer, the maximum file size for uploads... but I think every thing suffices for a fan site. AND, the tools are pretty good, for something free.

So. Legends Of The Denubian Realms. Here. At least until reality compels me to stop being occasionally twelve again and Weebly deletes the site due to neglect and inactivity.
